J: My brother brought this stout over, he was craving a stout and landed on this. I gotta say this is a powerful one, 11% and you taste every bit of it. It’s a boozy stout with a nice maple finish. Honestly, I can’t have more than two of these, have 3 or more of these and its full commit to calling off of work tomorrow. Today though (a Thursday)

C: Rarely do I enjoy a coffee, which translates to me not really liking stouts or porters. In life there is always an exception, and the Brewers at Great Notion have made something that I might enjoy. Im not one to tell you the notes I smell in a beer but this is reminiscent of your favorite breakfast diner on a cold winter morning. The smell of hot chocolate and coffee really hit you on the nose. Again Im not a fan of stouts so at first glance this is about as dark as motor oil, taste wise though its a winner and with an ABV of 11% you’re sure to get your bang for your buck. On the pallet this brew is hitting real hard with the coffee notes but you get that sweetness immediately which really makes it a smooth drink going down, leaving a nice buzz for the next beer to come.

M: No Fireball for me, straight to the stout. It’s 7:30pm, but this smells like something I’d enjoy first thing in the morning. Fresh, maple flavored coffee, not that I’ve ever had maple flavored coffee, but those are the two dominant notes I pick up as I lift the glass to my lips. Many of the 11% stouts I’ve tried have left me cringing my nose after a taste. This one, however, is smooth with no bite or bitter aftertaste. It’s good, really good, surprisingly for an 11 percenter. It’s dark, but with a light fluid consistency; not thick, heavy or creamy. The taste was on the nose with coffee and maple, and additionally, has a nuttiness to it. First taste definitely had me going in for a second and third sip within the first minute. I can probably enjoy one 16oz pour, but wouldn’t go for a second.
